Nordstrom
“Nordstrom takes great pride in the products we create, and we value the women and men in our global supply chain who make it possible. We have a long history of partnering with factories to create healthy and fair workplaces. Women make up the majority of factory workers around the world, and we’re committed to supporting them in developing the skills they need to thrive both at work and beyond, through increased access to things like health resources and education. We’re pleased to announce a new goal in which by 2023, 70% of all our Nordstrom- made products will be produced in factories that support women’s empowerment.”
– Jen Jackson Brown, President, Nordstrom Product Group
Nordstrom, a global retailer, commits to sourcing 70 percent of all Nordstrom-made products from factories that support women’s empowerment by 2023. Nordstrom will reach 75,000 workers in Vietnam, India and Bangladesh through programs like HERhealth, HERfinance and HERrespect, among others. The company anticipates it will reach at least 40,000 workers with HERhealth programs alone.
In 2021, Nordstrom expanded its goal to ensure by 2025 that 90% of Nordstrom-made products are produced in factories that are supporting women’s empowerment.
Nordstrom commits to sourcing 70 percent of all Nordstrom-made products from factories that support women’s empowerment by 2023, reaching 75,000 workers in countries including China, Vietnam, India and Bangladesh. Through this commitment, Nordstrom will implement BSR’s HERhealth, HERfinance and HERrespect – workplace training programs providing education on women’s health issues such as menstrual hygiene, family planning, maternal health, reproductive cancers and referral resources; education on savings and borrowing; and training on how to prevent and address workplace harassment and gender-based violence. In addition to BSR, Nordstrom is evaluating additional partners to help grow its women’s empowerment program. Given the importance of women’s health to their empowerment, the majority of Nordstrom-supported programs will be focused on health education, resources and services. Nordstrom anticipates it will reach at least 40,000 workers with HERhealth by 2023
Since 2007, Nordstrom has partnered with BSR’s HERproject to launch worker empowerment programs in 28 factories in Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Vietnam and China, reaching tens of thousands of workers. These investments have improved worker well-being and agency while also delivering business returns: One factory saw a reduction from 19% to 10% absenteeism from participation in HERhealth, and another factory saw a decrease in turnover from 14.5% to 8.1%. When workers are healthy and empowered, it’s a win for women and a win for the business.
